Project Description

IFC considers an investment up to $50 million A Loan to Tiryaki Agro Foods (“Tiryaki” or the “Company”), which is an integrated supply chain manager with activities in sourcing, logistics, processing, storage and marketing of agricultural products. The Company is headquartered in Istanbul, has a substantial presence in Turkey by operating plants across the country, including processing facilities in the city of Gaziantep, and has international trade presence. Tiryaki Agro Foods, a family owned private company which is engaged in sourcing, processing, storage and trading of conventional and organic grains (wheat, barley and corn), pulses (lentils, chickpeas, peas, beans, rice and bulgur), oil seeds (sunflower, sesame, canola and soybean) and nuts (pistachio, almonds, walnut and peanuts) across Europe, Africa, the Middle East, CIS countries, Indian subcontinent and North America.

Overview of IFC's Scope of Review

IFC’s review consisted of appraising environmental, occupational health and safety (OHS), and social information submitted by the Client as well as site visits to the Tiryaki facilities, silos and warehouses in Gaziantep and head office in Istanbul from October 10-13, 2011.

Interviews were conducted with Tiryaki’s CEO, Finance Director, Treasury Director, OHS Consultant, Quality Manager, Human Resource (HR) Manager, Production Manager, Technical Manager, Warehouse officers, Trading Managers.

Key documents reviewed include the IFC E&S appraisal information sheet submitted by the Company, as well as its Quality Manual, Food Safety Manual, HR Manual, relevant permits, ISO 22001 on food management safety procedures, instructions and forms; employment data, forms and statistics, examples of the labor contracts, documentation on trainings; information on waste production, environmental parameters monitoring data and energy consumption figures. Supply chain risk assessment and management procedures of the Company have also been reviewed.
