Project Description

Agrokor d.d. (Agrokor) is the largest food and retail group in former Yugoslavia. In March 2005, Agrokor acquired majority stakes in PIK Vrbovec d.d. (PIK) and Belje d.d. (Belje), two formerly state-owned companies engaged in agriculture, meat production and processing. PIK is situated southwest of Zagreb and is mainly involved in meat production, processing, packing and distribution, while Belje is a diversified agricultural complex whose main products are meat (beef and pork), cereal, flour and cheese. Belje is located in the far eastern Province of Baranja. Belje is located in a region were productive assets were significantly damaged during the 1990s conflict, and is in need of investments to rebuild and upgrade production and processing facilities. PIK’s and Belje’s operations need to be modernized and restructured, which is the object of this project.

Agrokor has extensive experience in acquisitions and operational restructurings, and has experienced a strong annual growth over the past years achieved both from organic and external growth.
