Project Description
The proposed project involves the financing of the final phase of the upgrading and expansion of the Sangster International Airport (SIA), the larger of Jamaica’s two international airports. On April 12, 2003 the operation of SIA was taken over by MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ or the company) under a 30 year build, operate and transfer concession granted by the Government of Jamaica following a competitive bidding process. IFC previously financed the first two phases in 2003, and has been actively monitoring progress and performance for over two years. This final phase consists of the construction of a new landside terminal facility and the renovation of the existing landside terminal to provide additional arrival, baggage claim and customs facilities, departure lounges, retail concessions and food courts.
