Project Description
The University of the West Indies (UWI) is constructing campus buildings to house its Institute of Business (IOB). Ground breaking for the project has already taken place (August 2003) and the building is expected to be operational by early next summer. The IOB was established in 1989 through the efforts of the private sector of Trinidad and Tobago in collaboration with UWI in order to meet the needs of the business community for relevant and responsive business education through post-graduate degree programs, training and consulting services and research to support the growth and development of organizations operating in Trinidad and Tobago and the region. IOB was incorporated in 1994 as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee (has no shareholders and is exempt from income taxes) and governed by a Board of Directors which is 2:1 private sector/UWI. IOB is managed as a self-sustaining business and has never received financial aid from the State, the University, or any other multi-lateral or international institution. Its revenues are derived from tuition, fees from training and consulting, and grants from companies backed by endowments.
