Project Description
The project consists of the construction and operation of a nationwide digital cellular telecommunications network based on the GSM-1900 standard. In March 2000, France Telecom acquired 86% of France Telecom Dominicana (FTD or the company), formerly known as Transmisiones y Proyecciones S.A., which owns a nationwide multi-services (including cellular) telecommunications license. France Telecom transferred its interests in FTD to Orange S.A on December 29, 2000. FTD launched commercial operations in November 2000 and currently serves over 250,000 customers through local cellular networks and expects to double its customer base by year-end 2002. The estimated total cost of the Project is US$ 290.0 million.
