Project Description
Mossel (Jamaica) Limited won a 15-year license in February 2000 for a nation-wide digital GSM cellular network in Jamaica. The IFC project is to support the launch and buildout of the system in the period 2000-2002. Mossel is headquartered in Kingston, Jamaica. At launch in the first quarter of 2001 the company expects to reach approximately 80% of the country’s population.
The network will be comprised of approximately 120 wireless telecommunications base stations at launch with annual growth on an as-needed basis thereafter. The network will also include a self-contained microwave transmission system and a central switch in Kingston. Construction and erection of tower sites will be outsourced to specialty construction firms. Installation and commissioning of network elements will be outsourced 100% to Ericsson.
