Project Description
Société Camerounaise de Mobiles (SCM) is one of two private nationwide cellular operators in Cameroon. The Company is wholly owned and controlled by France Telecom. In July 1999, following a competitive bidding process, SCM was awarded a 15-year license by the Government of Cameroon to provide nationwide cellular services. The Company launched digital GSM 900 cellular services in the country''s main cities in January 2000 and had over 68,000 subscribers by end of November. SCM expects to serve about 260,000 by year 2008. The project consists of the initial three-year investment program (1999-2001) to install and operate a nationwide GSM digital cellular telecommunications network.
