Project Description

This is an Upstream-Advisory (U/A) project (the “Project”) with Rivulis India, a private company (manufacturer of drip and sprinkler pipes for micro irrigation) and a wholly owned subsidiary of Rivulis Irrigation Limited, headquartered in Israel. The U/A work focusses to improve and accelerate the uptake of micro irrigation by smallholders i.e., create more demand/more business for Rivulis’s micro irrigation systems, thereby directly supporting their business expansion in India. This will be done through “developing agri service entrepreneurs” who are expected to i. provide micro irrigation related services to smallholders ii. provide overall farm advisory iii. strengthen dealer-distributor network and overall engagement with smallholders. The project includes a coverage of 10,000 smallholder across two large states of India-Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Micro irrigation directly supports climate adaptation and mitigation, contributes to yield growth, increases water use efficiency and optimizes fertilizer use i.e., overall lowers “Greenhouses Gases Emissions (GHGs), therefore is a decarbonization intervention at crop/farm production. The Project will have a 36-month implementation period (till July 2027) across states of Uttar Pradesh (U.P) and Tamil Nadu, covering at least 10,000 smallholders. There are two primary focus areas of the Project as described below: 1. Support client to expand business and market: The project will develop Agri-Service Entrepreneurs (ASEs) to provide micro irrigation related services to smallholders in TN and UP. The project will focus on training and capacity building of ASEs and client’s field team (includes dealers/sales agents). 2. Support Client to scale up training tools: The Project will support farm demonstrations and scale up use of smart training tools to enhance demand for micro irrigation and strengthen the engagement between client’s field team (includes dealers/sales agents) and smallholders.
