Project Description
IFC will support the Government of the State of Sao Paulo to boost private sector participation in SABESP, a state-owned company, through the sale of the majority of Sao Paulo State Government (GoSP) shares in a privatization process. SABESP is the biggest Water Supply and Sanitation Services (W&S) company in the Americas in terms of population served. Its concession area covers 375 municipalities in São Paulo State, totaling 31 million inhabitants. The project is a top priority for GoSP given that private management would prepare the company to face future challenges, by bringing state-of-the-art technologies for sustainable network operation and by adapting and expanding its infrastructure to be climate resilient. This is expected to increase operational efficiency and result in better quality services for the population.
