Project Description

This is project (the “Project”) is with client EID Parry. The Project builds on the lessons, experience, and results from the previous IFC advisory engagement with the client in supporting smallholders to implement climate smart agriculture interventions (for e.g., low carbon use interventions) which contributes to improvements in overall efficiency of client’s supply chain (supports decarbonization, digital technologies at farm level), sugarcane farm yields and sustainable management of land. There are two primary focus areas of the Project as described below: • Support client in promoting low carbon based climate smart interventions amongst smallholder sugarcane farmer: The Project will support client in promotion of low carbon based climate smart interventions in sugarcane cultivation amongst smallholder farmers in its value chain in the state of Tamil Nadu that leads to reduction in carbon based/Green House gases (GHG) emissions at farm level ; supports yield improvements and improve overall climate resilience of sugarcane farming in the catchment area. This shall be done with the aim to articulate and establish a robust business case for adoption of low carbon-based climate smart cultivation practices at the farm level. • Support Client in digital (and smart farm technologies): The Project will support implementing (and develop a business case) on digital technologies and their outcomes, impact (artificial intelligence-based models on yield and sugar recovery forecast) and smart farm technologies for e.g., use of drone for farm applications/operations like chemical input spray. These interventions will support in improving overall efficiency and effectiveness of client’s supply chain (both at farm and mill level-w.r.t to estimating accurate sugarcane production and accordingly mill management operations)
