Project Description

The climate-smart share farming project aims to enhance the commercial sustainability of 1,000ha irrigated land, by a perennial river operated today by refugee-host cooperatives, in Dollo Ado, a climate vulnerable area of the Somali Region of Ethiopia, to enhance local import substitution and food security of a captive market of 400,000 people of which 40% are refugees. The project will have a special focus on gender and climate. The program will be required to identify environmental and social risks and impacts as well as to design activities to help avoid, mitigate, and manage these risks and impacts as a way of doing business in a sustainable manner in accordance with the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability (2012). The level of detail and complexity of the environmental and social management program required will be commensurate with the anticipated impacts and risks of each specific activity while taking into account the outcome of the engagement process with affected communities as appropriate.
