Project Description
The objective of the project is to improve productivity, increase incomes and improve quality in the agricultural sector by:
- removing legal and regulatory obstacles to enhance the role of the private sector in providing agricultural inputs, especially seed, fertilizer and crop protection products;
- developing quality standards for key export commodities and local food processing, and
- developing skills related to the use of agricultural inputs and improved quality standards.
This will be achieved by:
- Assisting the government to develop and implement seed certification and licensing regulations to enhance the role of the private sector;
- Supporting organizational and operations to establish risk based inspections process to improve quality and user confidence in fertilizer and crop protection products;
- Facilitating the establishment of quality standards for Myanmar's primary agricultural export crops (rice, pulses and sesame) as well as for local food processors; and
- Developing sector specific solutions for the delivery of skills to agribusiness firms; agricultural input providers, domestic seed companies, and local food processors as a means to increase the quantity, quality and efficacy of agricultural input usage in Myanmar.
