Project Description

IFC is entering a collaboration with Raban Al Safina Company for Energy Projects Ltd. and Al Tameer for General Trading, Public Transport, Electromechanical Services and Systems Solutions Limited to support the development of a 200+ bed teaching hospital within the American University in Iraq – Baghdad medical cluster (the “Project”). The Project will establish an acute care, general medical/surgical private hospital equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. It will be supported by a team of healthcare professionals with both international and local experience, specializing in over 40 medical and surgical disciplines, offering a full continuum of comprehensive care. IFC’s support under this engagement includes cost-sharing of a comprehensive feasibility study, encompassing market, technical, financial, and regulatory assessments.

E & S Information

IFC funding, amongst others, will be used for a preliminary Environmental and Social (E&S) review of the proposed investment. Potential Project E&S risks to be addressed in the E&S studies by the Company and their contractors include, as a minimum: (i) client’s ability to identify, assess and manage key E&S risks and impacts during construction and operation; (ii) labor & working conditions, including Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), nosocomial infections, workers grievance mechanism, gender and Gender Based Violence (GBV) issues, child protection; (iii) energy and water efficiency; (iv) noise, management of hazardous biomedical wastes, hospital effluent discharge and air emissions; (v) emergency response and preparedness including evacuation post disaster and life and fire safety; (vi) contractors’ management; and (vii) stakeholder engagement and grievance mechanism.
